Props Building 101

This workshop is available for aspiring artists and craftsmen who have a keen interest in prop building within the film industry and other related areas.

Prop building requires multiple skills using a variety of materials and techniques. This 10 day intensive workshop is an introduction into this very unique field of work.

This course will be instructed by Peter Charron, a Professional Prop Builder within the Vancouver film industry.

 

This course will be limited to maximum 6 to 8 students per class.

You can expect a fast paced, hands on overview of the industry that will give students a solid foundation into the multiple methods required to create Props that are used in film, theatre and other related industries.

Mold making, casting, finishing and painting are just a part of what will be covered in the workshop. Students will complete this course with finished pieces that they have created from start to finish.

The beginning of a working portfolio is essential for anyone interested in a prop building career. This workshop will provide the necessary start.

• 1 and 2 piece mold making
  
• Casting in rigid and flexible foams
  
• Casting in rigid plastics realistic replicas
  
• Silicone rubber food molding and casting
  
• Basic airbrushing and finishing
  
• Foam carving, finishing and painting
  
• Breakaway concrete molding and casting
  
• Fabrication of available materials
  
• Inexpensive and realistic skeletal corpses
  
• Overview of the industry and guest speakers

  A Certificate of Completion will be issued to all students successfully completing the course.
